Levels

Scary Ruin

This level is the first structure that Ducky sees when starting a new game. It is located in the middle of the forrest clearing in the green meadows area of the overworld.

The level begins in the outdoors, just before a large structure. There is an underground cavern area where Ducky can pick up some Shurikens before heading into the structure. Once inside, Ducky must find a way into the basement to reach a sibling.

There are two secret areas in this level.

Level 1 Image

Dark Cave

This level can be found by traveling south-east from the forrest clearing in the green meadows area of the overworld.

Taking place inside a cave, the level stretches deep underground. There are 3 doors to pass, each one requiring Ducky to find a different coloured key.

Level 2 Image

Ruined Castle

This level is located at the bottom of the green meadows area of the overworld.

The player begins outside of a large castle-like structure. Ducky's sibling is located inside the castle, which Ducky cannot enter without finding a yellow key. This leads Ducky up and over the castle, into a cavernous underground area where the key is located.

There are three secret areas in this level.

Level 3 Image

Swamp Dwelling

This level can be found if Ducky travels north of the forrest clearing in the green meadows area of the overworld. The player must travel around a river and lake to find the level nestled beneath a forrest of swamp mangroves.

The level consists of a large structure that Ducky must enter, and an extensive underground area full of enemies and some spike traps. From inside the structure, Ducky must jump across many platforms that hang in the open air. One mistep and you are back where you started.

Both red and blue keys can be found.

Level 4 Image

Desert Ruins

This level is found in the lower-left part of the desert area of the overworld.

You begin outside of the ruin, making your way past old buildings and skeletons etc. Once inside the ruin, you have a choice of going either up or down.

The ruin extends up and over the desert, with one section containing platforms hanging in open air - be careful not to fall, or you will be back where you started. There are also several spike traps.

All three keys are present in this level - red, blue and yellow.

Level 5 Image

Seaside Cave

Found at the top-right of the desert area of the overworld, this level takes place inside a cave.

The level is divided into three vertical areas. The left and right areas require the appropriate key to enter, so your initial option is to climb the middle area. Watch out for spike traps.

Level 6 Image

Homestead

The homestead is found in the bottom of the wasteland, on the eastern side of the overworld.

This level consists of a main building, with a number of underground tunnels below it. You will find passages up either side of the building, as well as passages below either side. The options for where to explore are numerous. But you will soon find that you need the right key to continue down certain paths.

At the top of the building are a couple of spike traps, each with a single spike yet potentially deadly. This part is known to trip up many a player.

Level 7 Image

Fortified tower

This level is found at the top of the wasteland, on the eastern side of the overworld.

You will find yourself inside the tower at the start of the level. Platforms are disguised as part of the building, in the form of windows and doors. You can even stand on the door knob.

With the right key, you can enter either of the two side towers. But your ultimate goal, Ducky's sibling, lies at the top of the main tower.

Level 8 Image

The Wall

The wall is found in the bottom of the swamp area of the overworld. You will need to find your way around the forrest of mangroves at the bottom of the swamp to reach this level.

The level consists of a lower and an upper part. The upper part of the level consists of platforms that float in mid-air, so be careful not to fall and land back where you started.

To reach the upper part of the level, you will need to navigate the lower part first which takes place inside the wall.

There are two secret areas in this level.

Level 9 Image

Swamp Village

Arguably the most difficult level to beat, the swamp village is found in the top-right corner of the swamp area of the overworld.

The top part of the level represents a series of buildings, connected to each other by tunnels. The bottom part of the level consists of underground caverns.

Make sure you have plenty of lives saved up for this one, and avoid getting caught without a weapon to defend yourself because things are going to be dicey.

Level 10 Image

Enemies

In each level, you will encounter various enemies. If Ducky touches an enemy, you will lose a life. Therefore, your options are to either shoot them, or avoid enemies by jumping over them.

Snake

Probably the most common enemy that Ducky will encounter. Slow moving. But deadly.

Dog

The largest of Ducky's enemies, these beasts move at a medium pace and are found throughout the land.

Skull Bat

It is hard to tell what part of this enemy is the scariest. Is it the fact it has a skull for a face, or the fact that it flies? To make matters worse, these creatures also move quickly.

Skull Bat Image

Worm

This enemy is particularly dangerous due to its small size and speed; inconspicuous and fast moving.

Weapons

Ducky can pick up a variety of weapons to defeat foes. Each weapon comes with 5 shots. But only one weapon can be held at one time.

For example, if Ducky picks up a shuriken, you will be able to shoot 5 times. But if you have 2 shots left of the shuriken, and Ducky picks up a boomerang, you will lose those last 2 shots and will begin again with 5 shots with the boomerang.

Shots can stack, though. For example, if you still have 2 shots left of the shuriken, and you pick up another shuriken, you will end up with 7 shots.

Shuriken

The most straight forward weapon. Shoots straight forward.

Shuriken Pickup Image

Bomb

Bombs are thrown and travel in an arc, exploding on impact. Dispatches enemies that are caught in the explosion.

Bomb Pickup Image

Boomerang

These projectiles shoot straight foward, and can travel through enemies and walls. They will return when they reach the edge of the screen.

Saw Blade

Saw blades will bounce all around the room before exploding, dispatching of any enemy that gets in the way.

Points and Extra Lives

Ducky begins the game with 3 lives. This means that you can make a mistake only 3 times, e.g. touch an enemy, or fall into spikes. If Ducky runs out of lives, the game will be declared over.

There is a way to gain extra lives, however, and this is by picking up points. Every 50,000 points gained will earn Ducky one extra life.

Below is a list of the types of items that can be picked up, followed by the number of points that Ducky will gain.

Switches and Moving Platforms

Although most platforms that Ducky will jump onto are static, some of them move around.

Moving platforms are found throughout the levels, and some of them are activated by a switch. Others are always moving. Moving platforms are able to move vertically, or horizontally, and change directions when they reach a certain point. On rare occasions, moving platforms may change direction entirely, moving from a horizontal direction to a vertical one.

The trick is to jump onto them at the right time.

Moving Platforms Image

Some moving platforms need to be activated by a switch. Switches are usually found near the platform they activate, although some might be hard to reach.

Doors and Keys

Sometimes Ducky will encounter a door blocking the way to part of the level. Each door has a lock near it. To open a door, you will need to find a key of the corresponding colour.
